Halloween

Seeing as it's already almost Thanksgiving somehow, I should probably actually post about Halloween Day!

A bit before Halloween, we carved pumpkins as a family.  Halloween is not my favorite holiday, but carving pumpkins? Now THAT I love.

(This picture would be really funny/terrible if that spoon in Jimmie's hand was a knife. Ha!)

Jimmie did NOT love carving pumpkins. I thought he'd like pulling the pumpkin guts out…apparently not!
Jim, on the other hand, quite enjoyed it!  Not the gutting part, but the designing/cutting part.  He's got skills!

Normally I used a pattern… but the one I chose kind of flopped.  I could tell it wouldn't work.  So I just decided to bag it and wing it.  I don't think it turned out too bad for just taking a knife to it!

Jim's lovely Frankenstein pumpkin.  Turned out awesome!

Halloween Day- We originally had only planned costumes for Jimmie and myself because we didn't think Jim would be able to come trick-or-treating with us.  Turns out that he was, so he was just our "zookeeper" aka…looking totally normal. Hah!

The morning was spent hanging out at the doctor's office as I had a prenatal appointment and the 1hr glucose tolerance test that morning. (By now, I've learned that I failed the 1-hr despite the fact that I fasted for 12 hrs prior to try and avoid that 3 hr one.  No luck!  I've already taken the 3-hr test and am just waiting to hear.)

Mommy & baby giraffes!

Jimmie totally loved his costume.  HA! It was a struggle the first few times we got it on him.  But he got the hang of it after a little while.

In early afternoon, we headed over to my Uncle Bruce's and cousin Lauren's work to do some trick-or-treating at their real estate office and say "Hi!".  It was a lot of fun to let Jimmie have a practice early trick or treating and see our family.

Afterwards, we headed over to Jim's work where they were doing their annual Halloween party.
Free Rita's Water Ice.  Free J-Dawgs.  Need I say more??

It'd kind of been a long day by that point so we got the food and left to bring back to the house and eat here.  We were able to Skype with my parents for a bit and let Jimmie take a nap before going out again at night.

That night we got together with a family who we don't always get to see.  They live in Layton (about an hour and 15 min away), but she was doing some training for her new job down in Provo.  Since they were already down here, we were able to go Trick-or-Treating together!  Here's a shot of the kids. Little Wesley was an adorable little minion from Despicable Me.

By the time we got out, Jimmie was pretty tired and ready for bed.  He was a little confused as to what was going on, and we made the mistake of going to a different neighborhood.  We live with houses surrounding us, but it didn't seem like a particularly active area.  Of course, the neighborhood we went to seemed nice…until we realized the houses are all huge and far apart which is hard on little legs!  Jimmie only lasted probably 30 minutes before he fell asleep…turns out it was really good that we went to visit Bruce!  Wesley really got trick-or-treating down so they continued on after we were totally spent.

Overall, Halloween was busy but totally fun.  And of course, the candy was gone within a few days…via Mom.  I think Dad and Jimmie ate a piece or two… but yeah :)
Looking forward to next year!  Next year, Jimmie will definitely be understanding it a bit better and we will be better prepared to go out earlier so we're not fighting right up against bedtime.
Until next year!
